Open-source CAD alternatives to SolidWorks and AutoCAD released in Rust

Two new open-source CAD applications have been released, signaling an effort to test the practical applications of AI-assisted development in engineering software. Both tools are written entirely in Rust.

The released projects include SolidCraft, a parametric 3D modeller developed by GitHub contributor bherbruck. The second tool, CADCraft, is an AutoCAD-style drafting application produced by the ArtCraft team, the same group responsible for development work linked to recent Adobe and Microsoft software initiatives.

These releases aim to explore the current limits of AI-assisted coding in the creation of complex engineering software. The development of these tools follows a trend of utilizing AI to streamline software workflows and reduce file-fixing requirements for engineering professionals.
