BT expands 5G standalone network and initiates AI-RAN trials

BT has announced plans to extend its 5G standalone (5G SA) network coverage. Alongside this infrastructure expansion, the company confirmed it will initiate trials for AI-Radio Access Network (AI-RAN) technology.

These upcoming trials, scheduled to take place next year, involve collaborations with technology partners Nokia and Nvidia. The integration of artificial intelligence into the Radio Access Network is intended to explore new operational efficiencies for mobile infrastructure.

While further technical specifications regarding the extent of the 5G rollout and the specific parameters of the AI-RAN trials remain limited, these developments represent BT’s ongoing effort to modernize its network capabilities through both standalone 5G architecture and AI-driven optimizations.
