Aselan has announced the development of the Astralink constellation, a project consisting of 198 satellites aimed at providing sovereign connectivity for Türkiye. The initiative reflects a broader trend toward the development of dual-use space technology as nations prioritize independent communications infrastructure.
This announcement follows recent reports of connectivity challenges associated with existing satellite networks, such as Starlink, in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. By pursuing the Astralink project, the organization seeks to establish an indigenous system that ensures reliable access for its sovereign needs, reducing dependency on third-party providers.
At this stage, the project is characterized by the target of 198 satellites; further technical specifications regarding the deployment timeline, launch providers, or operational status have not been disclosed.
