Kazakhstan shifts energy strategy to support high-density AI infrastructure

Kazakhstan is moving to establish Central Asia’s first Tier IV data center, a development that follows a significant shift in the country’s energy policy. The nation is currently undertaking a revision of its energy market regulations, aiming to move beyond a previous period characterized by a volatile cryptocurrency mining boom.

The strategic update to these regulations is intended to create an environment capable of supporting high-density artificial intelligence (AI) workloads. By realigning its energy infrastructure, Kazakhstan seeks to transition toward more sustainable and stable digital operations, moving away from the power-intensive demands that previously defined its digital sector.
