Pine Labs and Webxpay partner to introduce UPI payments in Sri Lanka

Pine Labs and Webxpay have announced a partnership to introduce India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system to the Sri Lankan market. The move aims to facilitate seamless digital transactions for the increasing number of Indian visitors traveling to the country.

The collaboration comes as India maintains its position as Sri Lanka’s largest source market for tourism. Official data indicates that more than 530,000 Indian travelers visited Sri Lanka in 2025, a figure that highlights a strong upward trend in travel between the two nations that has continued into 2026.

By integrating UPI, a real-time payment system developed in India, the partnership seeks to simplify the payment experience for tourists, potentially reducing reliance on traditional currency exchange methods. The expansion of UPI into Sri Lanka reflects ongoing efforts to integrate digital payment frameworks across international tourism corridors.
