PPRO establishes Local Payments Council to support agentic commerce

PPRO has announced the launch of the Local Payments Council for Agentic Commerce, an initiative aimed at aligning the payments industry with the emerging requirements of autonomous agent-led transactions.

The council is supported by a group of founding members, including BLIK, the European Payments Initiative (EPI), Bancontact Company, and DIAS. According to the announcement, additional payment schemes have also committed to joining the council to help navigate the intersection of digital payments and agentic commerce.

Agentic commerce refers to the use of autonomous digital agents to initiate and execute transactions on behalf of users. The establishment of this council suggests a move toward standardizing how local payment methods integrate with these automated purchasing systems.
