Microsoft secures renewable energy supply in Japan through Blueleaf Energy partnership

Microsoft has strengthened its commitment to renewable energy in the Japanese market by entering into two power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Blueleaf Energy, a renewable energy platform backed by Macquarie Asset Management.

Blueleaf Energy manages a substantial portfolio of solar projects in Japan, totaling approximately 1.2 gigawatts (GW). These agreements represent a strategic effort by Microsoft to integrate renewable sources into its local energy procurement strategy as part of its ongoing efforts to manage the environmental impact of its digital infrastructure.

The move aligns with broader industry trends where major technology companies are increasingly relying on long-term power purchase agreements to secure clean energy for data centers and other digital operations. Neither company has disclosed specific details regarding the capacity or duration of these individual agreements at this stage.
