Italian 3D printer manufacturer WASP has announced the development of a new dual extrusion technology capable of combining earth-based materials with plastic reinforcement in a single printing process. The company is currently seeking a patent for the approach, which aims to leverage the specific structural properties of both material types.
The system integrates two distinct printing processes: Liquid Deposition Modeling (LDM) and Fused Granulate Fabrication (FGF). By utilizing these methods in tandem, the printer can alternate between depositing an earth-based paste and applying thermoplastic material. According to WASP, this integration of plastic reinforcement is intended to enhance the structural capabilities of earth-based 3D printed objects.
The development of this dual extrusion capability represents a technical effort to merge natural, traditional construction materials with modern synthetic reinforcements, potentially expanding the range of applications for sustainable additive manufacturing.
