The University of Turku in Finland has enhanced its metal 3D printing capabilities by integrating a new multi-material recoater into its existing system. This upgrade allows researchers to utilize three separate powder drums to deposit different metals within the same print layer.
This technical advancement is intended to facilitate complex material studies, with a specific focus on the development of plasma-facing components for fusion energy applications. By enabling the precise layering of varied metallic materials, the university aims to expand its research capacity in both the fusion energy and aerospace sectors.
